Packs
Racing Expands, Signs Cox to Super Cup Ride
After
scoring their first victory in the Super Cup Stock Car Series last
year, Packs Racing will expand to become a two-car team for the 2012
season.
Driver J. J. Pack will be joined by veteran Stephen Cox, who leaves
a brief stint with Larry Wilcox Racing to pilot the second full-time
Super Cup entry for an emerging Packs team. Cox’s primary
sponsors, McGunegill Engine Performance and Boschett Timepieces,
will follow him when he takes over his new ride at the April 28th
season opener at Columbus Motor Speedway.
On paper, the new pairing makes Packs Racing one of the stronger
teams in the series. J. J. Pack won the 2011 Webb’s
Auto Body 100 on his way to a 7th place points finish.
Cox has two road racing titles and 14 career wins on both ovals and
road courses. The tandem is expected to vault Packs Racing into
immediate contention in the 2012 Super Cup title chase.
“All of this came down pretty quickly,” Cox said of the deal
that was closed last week. “This is one of the best seats in the
series. The team is a consistent front runner. Packs Racing has a
very secure team situation and that's vital. They’re committed to
the series, they've got good equipment and they’ve got good
people. I'm thankful to have the opportunity.”
Cox’s effort to win the Super Cup championship will require some
luck and good timing, as he has a pre-existing obligation to
Velocity Channel as a host of the Mecum Auto Auction. A conflict
between the two could knock him out of championship contention.
Neither Super Cup nor the Mecum Auction has yet released their full
2012 schedule.
The Super Cup Stock Car Series features 600 horsepower, 3400-lb
stock cars competing on short track ovals across the east coast. The
April 28th race at Columbus Motor Speedway will help kick off the
historic track's 65th season of competition.

Attention
Super Cup Owners/Drivers/Spotters: Raceceivers are now available to
Super Cup teams
Getting
information in a timely manner is important to you and your driver.
Stop the frustration of not knowing were to line up or who is
the lucky dog. When the
line-up is called out everyone will hear it at the same time.
No more disputes over who goes where. No time wasted getting
cars lined up. Don't
wait for the official to find you and pass the info, second hand.
Get it first, get it directly from race control.
You
will know when the one to go signal is coming before it comes out
giving you time to make an adjustment or get back in line for the
restart. You will know
what the caution was for and where it is on the track.
You will know how long before the race goes green again.
You will know what lap has been completed and how many to go.
R
H 2 is the official radio supplier to the series and has a product
that will answer all these questions and more.
The information you need is available from race control.
You only need to monitor race control. Don't be left in the
dark trying to figure out what's going on. Clean up knows, the
wrecker operators and safety personal know.
The information is free, you just need to be on the right
channel.
R
H 2 has a program for Super Cup competitors that is recommended by
the series. You can use
your own scanner as well. This
is not mandatory, However it is highly recommended.
The people that use Raceceivers will know what's going on all
though the race. The
other option is to ask after the race is over.
R
H 2 is linked to our site.

Super
Cup Challenge --- A special race at a special place!
Hickory
Motor Speedway
Hickory
Motor
Speedway
is the birthplace of many things including the Super Cup Series.
In
October of 2007 an exhibition race was held at HMS. That race
turned into the Super Cup Series and the rest as we say is
history.
Another
special race was held at
Hickory
in October of 2011. This one had a name, The Challenge. It was
won by Brian Harrison of Renick W.V. The history of the
Challenge series only has one page at this time. There will be
some new pages added in 2012.
It's
only fitting that we started our new series/division at the track
where Super Cup was born. Challenge
races will be held throughout the regular season following selected
Super Cup events. Drivers competing in challenge races will be
awarded points towards the year end Challenge Championship.
These events will be for Super Cup drivers that haven't found their
way to victory lane during the regular season.
To
be eligible, drivers must enter and compete in the Super Cup event
prior to the challenge race.
Brian
Harrison stepped up to the challenge at HMS. Who will step up next?
Who
will be the first Challenge series Champion ? Maybe Him, Maybe Her,
Maybe You.
